Opals

I love the variety present with opals. This pendant is an Australian black opal, which appears more blue that black. I set it in a heavy 18 Karat Gold bezel with a sterling silver backplate. It looks amazing on both a sterling silver chain and on an 18K chain. The earrings are tiny Australian opals set in 18 Karat gold with 3 mm faceted champagne diamonds. They are small but lovely, and the gold really sets off the fire in the opals.
The Beauty of 18 Karat Royal Yellow Gold
Posted by Kristin Simerson on
Gold is a fun medium with which to work. My favorite is 18 karat Royal Yellow Gold from Stuller. It just seems to glow and appear magical. Unfortunately, gold is expensive just for playing! I've managed to make myself a few pieces with some special stones and add it as an embellishment when appropriate. This pendant is 18 Karat with a beautiful Montana Sapphire. Montana Sapphires come in a variety of colors. I used a rolling mill to texturize the gold bar, which adds depth and interest.
